It depends on the age of your computer ;) I have the same problem.
Especially if I type fast, the editor can't handle it.
I also have a problem, if I click the "More: Tags" tab for TWs that have
many tiddlers and many different tags. It's up to 1 second .... On a
mobile, I'd like to throw it away :((

I think it's a problem with the refresh mechanism. It seems the whole
display is refreshed with every keystroke, which seems to make it slow.

@Jeremy,
As I wrote this reply I found out how you could reproduce the behaviour.
... on your old Mac :)

 - open a "New Tiddler" with the TiddlyWiki.com tw, so there is some content
 - Type some text ... fast
    - The editor works
 - Go to the "More" tab and open every "sub tab" once.
    - so "All", "Recent", "Tags" ....
 - Now type some words in the editor. -> on my computer it needs about a
second to update one word

May be its related to the TW internal "tiddler cach"? Since it is filled
up, if you click the "sub tabs"
