The wikitext constructions in TW5 are designed to be easier to type and read alternatives to bulky HTML syntax. But because one can is always free to drop down to raw HTML we're free to focus on the major use cases with the wikitext syntax. Anyhow, in this instance, I think the @@ behaviour was just a mistake, and needs fixing.
