The TW5 Roadmap (see http://tiddlywiki.com/static/RoadMap.html) includes 
this item:
   * [img[url]] for remote image embedding, and [ext[url]] for explicit 
external links 

This syntax has not yet been implemented, so until then, the HTML syntax 
you are using is the correct fallback.
