Sad to say, I hadn't seen the TiddlerFilters tiddler. I thought I'd looked through every tiddler on tiddlywiki.com, but I guess not. It's exactly what I would have been looking for! Honestly, I think it's a matter of terminology. This may be because I'm new to TW, but I was looking all over for "search" capabilities. Not finding them wasn't helped by the bits about "better searching" in the future roadmap; I assumed it was called "search" and just wasn't implemented, yet. What I would recommend is creating a help tiddler called Searching and have it say something like "In TW the word used for searching is *filtering*. Imagine seeing a list of all your tiddlers, then only displaying those which match a certain filter. The TiddlerFilters tiddler better describes the filter syntax. At the moment full filter syntax is not used by the sidebar, but it is used by <$list>, etc. The sidebar will support it in the future." Sorry for my confusion when the TiddlerFilters actually answers 90% of the questions I had!
