How would I do that? I input <pre> <username> it still doesn't display the 
<username>.

On another hand, I've found a way to accomplish this. It's a bit hackish 
but works. I simply use the typed blocks markup but didn't specify an input 
type. It said that in the article that if it didn't recognize the filetype 
being specified, it would display the text that follows it as plain text.

$$$<username>$$$ works fine.
