Hi Andrew, A download button to retrieve a snapshot of a server instance actually exists, although it does not overload the regular download button, as one might expect. It is hidden in the "server" tab that is created in the ControlPanel when running the node.js version.
By the way, it may be worth noting that while the html file you get with the normal download button is not directly usable, you still can drag and drop it on a running wiki in order to retrieve saved tiddlers. I was glad I could do that after my server got stuck and no sync was possible.
