TWC had it's own "comment marker" syntax, using /% and %/, like this:
   /% this text is a comment that is not rendered %/

TW5 supports mixing standard HTML syntax with wiki syntax.
To embed a comment in tiddler content, use HTML comment syntax, <!-- and 
-->, like this:
   <!-- this text is a comment that is not rendered -->
