You already should be able to fo that using <$list> and <$reveal>. The problem you're facing is that it is not possible to use the output of a widget as a value for… well… for anything but for generating a tiddler.
A macro is a different thing. Macro output can be assigned to variables, which in turn can be used for replacements.
