thanks Andreas. maybe to would be more logical to only display an edit box when the user has selected a 'value node ' (i.e one of the leaves of the tree). At present it is possible to edit branches of the tree, which exposed the json syntax to the user (the purpose of the editor is to manipulate the json as tree structures so that the user doesn't have to deal with json syntax). cheers BJ
