Hi Jeremy,
Concerning the ToC. I like it very much, and its definitively something
useful for people like me that use a lot of structured/hierarchical
tiddlers. And I think it could also be part of a left sidebar menu instead
of a right sidebar tab.
It is thought as part of tw.com to improve readability of its contents, and
as it is, its fine, but I think it could be generalized as a tool for all
users wikis. In order to do so, I see different problems and/or possible
improvements:
1. The list of tiddlers is written manually. It would be better (from my
perspective) to use tags and display them automatically. For example:
- Main topic level: *Guide*, *Reference*, *Advanced* and *About* are
tagged "*ToC*" or "*MainTopic*"
- Subtopic level: *Introduction*, *Concepts*, etc., are tagged "
*Guide*"
- Sub-sub level: *GettingStarted*, *Features*, etc., are tagged "
*Introduction*"
- That way, it would be "more comfortable" to add tiddlers to the
ToC, just tagging them.
- A same tiddler or subtopic could belong to different topics.
- What if I don't want a particular tiddler be shown? A tag "
*noToC*" could be a solution?
2. There are three levels. What If I have a highly
complex/hierarchical TW? Could there be more than three levels (using the
above mentioned tagging system for instance)?
3. The main topic level could be a slider too. Useful if there's a lot
of main topics.
4. Using tags, I would expect to open the corresponding tiddlers when
clicking on topics/subtopics like "*Guides*", "*Introduction*", "
*Wikitext*".
- If they are clickable as links, they are not clickable as sliders.
Both are not incompatible, but its a problem to have them both.
- Stephan would expect something different than me: "the possibility
to open all the tiddlers below a topic".
I know that my suggestions give you more problems than solutions. Sorry!
I'm a philosopher :)
Regards,
Alberto
