Try these:
1) use backslash "\" instead of "/" for path separators.
2) add ".pdf" to the end of the filename.
3) drag the PDF file directly into a browser.  If your browser can load it, 
then it should also show you the correct local URI, which you can then 
copy/paste into your document link.
