Look at the ToC in [1] (the "Contents" tab in the sidebar). It is based on tags and fields: main topics (here "Philosophie") are tagged "@ToC", and subtopics point to the main topic through the field "about". Many other configurations are possible, using tags only, fields only, mixed (like here), etc. Are you looking for something like that?
