You hit the nail on the head! I had no idea that you could replace the
[value] with {!!field_with_value_in_it} ... I was trying to do
[{!!field_with_value_in_it}] and that broke the parsing. I never thought of
dropping the square brackets!
That was exactly the simpler solution that I was looking for. Thanks!
