What Evolena said makes a lot of sense. Why don't you create the TOC
tiddlers wit a list like
<$list filter="[prefix[topic]]">
{{!!title}}
</$list>
That way your student's only have to add a prefix to each image they want
to add to the relevant TOC. Or maybe you can use tags to be even more
flexible (multiple toc belonging).
The other step is creating a button with a camera image and put it directly
on the sidebar or in the right-topbar. That way the only thing they have to
do is press that button take the picture and then tag it accordingly.
