Hi Andrew won't work in a field if the field is displayed as plain text, but it will work correctly if the field is wikified (ie displayed with a transclusion rather than the <$view> widget). If you want a non-breaking space in a field that will be displayed as plain text then you need to use a keyboard shortcut as suggested by Stephan. Wikipedia gives the keyboard shortcuts for each operating system:
