There are many text-/ code-editors that allow you to do diffs on files. I sometimes use PSPad for it: Right click on a tab and then select the file to compare against. You would have to compare the actual html, though. Might not be pretty. Would be nice to have the import do that for you. As for debugging... keep backups, first and foremost! If installing a plugin by itself is causing this fatal error, then the best one to consult is the plugin author. Unless you know or are able to figure out what's going on yourself. Although not able to run, a broken TW might just be importable into a clean one... so you can deselect any tiddlers assumed culprit.
