I think it would be good to reach out to the StickleBack community. There is a potential source of imagery, information to extend the small fish metaphor.
My current favourite StickleBack researcher is Jolle Jolles [1] He reports [2]: Research carried out in the Zoology Department at the University of Cambridge suggests that observations of these tiny fish, and how they interact with one another, could provide important insights into the dynamics of social groups, including humans. The video of the research gives some indication of the quality of images being produced - of individuals and schools.
