Hi Alex I think this is very much along the lines I've been thinking about for a development of the "introduction" edition (or perhaps it would be better as a new "gettingstarted" edition). The introduction edition is currently a presentation that explains the key features of TiddlyWiki, and it does so using gradual disclosure:
http://tiddlywiki.com/editions/introduction The idea would be to take the user through the steps to create tiddlers and save changes as a step-by-step tutorial, with this same idea of progressively disclosing the UI features that they need to accomplish the steps, all very much as you describe. I don't like the word "gamifying" but it has something of that idea. Best wishes Jeremy.
