Thank you Peter. Problem fixed. Turns out I had set the default to not view it in FF but in my separate pdf viewer. For anyone else having the problem, here's a description <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them> - but you should do the opposite, i.e set it *to* *be* previewed in FF.
