This both things have confused me a bit. You said more or less the same that Felix and me, but I'm not sure if you subscribe our ideas or not. What do you think exactly? A pull to the core? A separate plugin? For me, providing unique IDs it's a feature that should be inside the core. Even if the core does not takes care of them neither uses them.
