I wish to control what to focus on. One use case is for what to focus on
after pressing a button but ideally I'd like to set focus also without user
interaction.

Something like a "action-setfocus" SetFocusWidget seems like it would be a
natural component but I can't find anything like it.

Any ideas?

My use case at hand is for QuickTid; <http://quicktid.tiddlyspot.com/>
When you use the select feature to fill the text field with pre-made
content, if the filled in content is vertically shorter than the length of
the select options list then, at the moment the option is chosen and the
option list closes, the mouse pointer no longer hovers over the QuickTid so
the quicktid hides. I think this can be prevented if I can set the focus eg
on the text area where the selected text is applied.

There's also the reverse problem; After clicking the "loudl" done button
(i.e the checkmark without parentheses) the new tiddler is navigated to.
But the mouse is still on the checkmark, thus hovering over QuickTid... so
it remains open... covering the navigated to new tiddler.

Ideas appreciated.
