Yes, a lot of stuff is obscure. As a start, you can edit tiddler
$:/config/EditTemplateFields/Visibility/created and change "hide" to "show" Then the created date will show up in the fields when you edit. You can edit it, but the date stamp format, as you will see, is not readily human-readable. Good luck!
