Yes, there are some interesting quirks with the TextAreaWdget. Here are some.. semi-answers;
The speed I don't know what to do about, but it is related to if the content you're editing is used e.g if there is a recalculation using the content. Particularly macros refresh the page so this is why you loose focus after each key press.
