Hi KB, It sounds like you haven't installed the KaTeX plugin. Go to Control Panel -> Plugins -> Get More Plugins
Once installed it works exactly as shown in the second link, using any of the subset of LaTeX shown in the first link. Display style equations are delimited by $$ LaTeX here... $$ and inline equations would be $$LaTeX here$$ It's pretty nifty and looks like magic the first time you see beautiful equations rendered in your wiki, that don't require internet connection to see them.
