Ok, I did yet another experiment and things are looking promising. I tried this Top Story View as an alternative to the classic: https://github.com/felixhayashi/TW5-TopStoryView
It turns out the Top StoryView *does* scroll so the AboveStory content is visible...although for some reason the exact scrolling position of selecting a new title is slightly odd to me.
