The default saving mechanism is ok as long as you have a launcher to make re-starting easy. I've done this with Windows and I'm sure it could be done with Mac and Linux. My post on the topic seemed to be greeted with yawns, alas.
I think it should be possible to make a small Android app that would do the same for smartphones. On my smartphone, admittedly 4 generations behind, loading TW takes too long. Worse Android will arbitrarily de-load when I switch away to another app for more than a minute. This is why when to take a note or share information I'm more likely to use Simplenote.
