Dave, I have not used andtidwiki for some time so I cant provide a solution but something to keep in mind is PDF files are not themselves handled by tiddlywiki but by the browser having the ability to display them, potentially with extensions. We would expect Firefox to display them but if the PDFs is inside the tiddlywiki rather than only linked to, the whole thing must load into memory.
I Now use the termux, NodeJS method to host a tiddlywki on my android now, but it is a little fiddly, it may be better at dealing with memory.
