I think one very important part here is: "Unless specifically asked for" 

So everytime, we disable something by default, we also need to introduce 
the opposite function, because "sometimes we want it back" ... 

I think your "add a system prefix" is a sensible approach. Especially as we 
have the <<tree>> [1] macros since 5.1.15 which give as nice overview of 
"name spaces"
