My understanding of the gdpr is 
1.you have to opt in to any data stored about you and what it's going to be 
used for. 
2. It has to be securely stored (which might be why your school says cloud 
storage is allowed).
3. Don't keep data any longer than you need to.
4. You have a right to see any data about you. 
I'm sure there is much complexity I've not grasped.
