Jed mentioned his PhotoGallery which is very good, especially if you want "gallery" plus slide show.
You might also want to look at "muuri" by BTC which is not a gallery system but is a sophisticated grid system for Tiddlers that could serve that purpose. Its a "work-in-progress" but is well worth a look. http://muritest.tiddlyspot.com/ to get an idea.
