Other experts can clarify as I understand it most of the tiddler is loaded into the browser, but with skinny tiddlers only the content, eg the image info is loaded when needed.
If you think about it, searches, titles, tagging, fields etc... need to be available for tiddlywiki to work. I would like further info as well.
