Daemon, I expect it is because when the tab is being displayed the currentTiddler value is not correct.
I suggest inserting <<currentTiddler>> and <<currentTab>> in a few places to work out what is happening. Place <hr> below your tabs to show what is tab and what is current Tiddler output. Test what is happening step by step and you should figure it out. I tested my code and it worked.
