Jeremy,
 This may not seems the correct solution, but If I warp the <pre><$text 
text=<<dumpvariables>>/></pre> in another macro, then I can pass vars as 
$(var)$ and uses the <<mycar p1 p2 3p3>> format!

Please advise!
