That's a great idea. For a good starting point, the developers of
Monkey Pirate TiddlyWiki have written a plug-in called
"LessBackupsPlugin"[1] that modifies backup behavior (theirs keeps one
backup file per day, week, month, etc.). You can probably take
inspiration from them for a good way to implement your variant.
