Hi,

I'm using tiddlywiki (monkeygtd actually) to manage my daily work
actions and information and so on. One thing I was missing was the
functionality to be able to refer to an email message that I keep in
Outlook. I wanted to be able to click a button which then opens the
message. One big catch : it must work in firefox since I simply do
not want to work in Internet Explorer. That proved to be a nasty
requirement !
I will explain how I managed to accomplish this and I hope you could
comment on it because somewhere I feel there must be a simpler way :)

Step 1 (easy) : create a macro in Outlook to fetch the EntryID of the
selected message
Step 2 (horror) : copy the ID as text on the Clipboard. Believe it or
not, I searched a whole evening on this and finally found a wrapper by
Karl E. Peterson.

Step 3 (easy) : create a java applet that uses COM+ to talk to
Outlook. I used Jacob for this.
Step 4 (horror) : make this applet work in firefox. I had to sign the
jar file and tweak the java.policy file for it to work.

Step 5 (easy) : create the javascript to call the applet
Step 6 (easy) : create the Tiddlywiki macro

You see I had to go through quite some loops to be able to talk to
Outlook from within Firefox. Any suggestions how this could be
accomplished more elegantly are welcome !

If someone else is interested, I will happily give any documentation!

Thanks for this great wiki application !

Kind regards

Henk
