arg...I've been looking at this for 2 days and couldn't figure it out. I posted here as a last resort. As I was looking at the link you gave me I realized what the problem was. I am using the journals but they kept showing up in the orphaned list so I added the 'excludeLists' tag so I could see the actual orphaned tiddlers; that tag prevents the tiddler from appearing in the References list. As soon as I take off the tag the references work.
