Regardless of the language, recursion can *always* run into
performance issues, depending upon the kind of data it is working
with.

Even so, recursion in javascript seems to perform reasonably well.
Two examples from TiddlyTools:

   http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#HTMLFormattingPlugin
   recursively walks the DOM tree to render wiki content within HTML
text nodes

   http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#ShowObject
   recursively walks an arbitrary JS object to display all properties
   see section starting with: "if (typeof($1)!='undefined')"
   note: uses 'arguments.callee' for **anonymous recursion**
