This was the solution! Thank you, Eric. To continue in this vein: is event propagation responsible for canceling a window selection when the cursor is placed in a text input area? Or is this solely under control of the user agent? Do you know if this can be overridden, such than when a user makes a selection on the page with the mouse, then clicks in a text input and types, the selection is maintained?
