BTW, what happens when tiddlers are *folded*? Is their content somehow 
removed from the tree? Should that be sufficient to solve the issue? (I'm 
trying to test it but my computer is currently messing with me so I can't 
draw conclusions.)

That sounds more like a "construct" than a "temporary state". I lack the 
knowledge to theorize implications properly but I'm thinking it should be 
more economical to just "block the refresh" rather than to actually do or 
construct something to display alternative things...?
