Unless GitHub had added new features I don't know about no, it couldn't be hosted on GitHub. What would GitHub add in this instance? it is just another moving part to handle. The backend could do whatever you want it to do, so yes you could do timed fetches. And yes, that is what I meant when I said that having the back-end server would take care of https-vs-http
