I cannot reproduce this crash. I put the laptop in the docking station, disable the internal display, undock it and the internal display gets usable again. Putting the laptop back in the docking station does bring back the external display with the internal display disabled. However, when gnome-screensaver is running I run into bug 705791.

In System->Preferences->Monitor I have enabled this monitor and disabled the one built into the laptop. Now I undocked the laptop and got a blank screen on both. So I docked it back thinking that I would get the external display back, but no!
