I experience similar issues running DRC's Xvnc build on Debian 5.0.
I am using the OpenBox Window manager and LXPanel. I notice this
type behavior when switching virtual desktops using the pager on
LXPanel. Have not had time to fully quantify what is happening or
all cases that it is happening. It is mainly noticeable with
desktops that have Mozilla based programs. For example, we have an in house QT3 based program running on desktop 1 and Firefox or Thunderbird on Desktop 2. Switching from Desktop 1 to Desktop 2 with leave drawings of Desktop 1 on Desktop 2 for most of the client windows. Mainly in the Firefox one. Xterms do not really seem to be affected. Like you said, minimizing or moving the window significantly will for a redraw that will clear it up. This does not happen on TightVNC with the same configuration. It's as if the order of the window layering is lost, but there are smaller rendering artifacts as well. I'm not sure if it's application specific, firefox does it for sure. Minimizing/maximizing the window or rolling it up into it's title bar repaints the window correctly, however a screen refresh does not. I'm building Xvnc from the 1_1 branch but applying the patch referenced in bug ID 3286073 (the small artifacts actually look more like the second issue in that bug so I'm not sure that this patch is relevant), as well as the patch to vncHooks.cc that Peter posted in this message: http://www.mail-archive.com/tigervnc-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg01090.html (which is in the trunk, but not 1_1 branch). Sorry for the sketchy details, but it seems to be pretty straight forward to reproduce. Can anyone else confirm this? --
