This is done.  -DBUILD_STATIC=1 in CMake.  Note that this code was
ported over from VirtualGL, which is why it is disabled for OS X.  I
found some really nasty problems in vglclient when linking with the
static libstdc++ on OS X.  Not sure whether those same problems would
exist in TigerVNC, but I think they're probably endemic to the OS X
compiler chain.  It's not that big a deal, because Apple does a good job
of supplying backward-compatible versions of libgcc and libstdc++.  The
option is mainly useful for building a cross-compatible version of
TigerVNC on Linux systems.
