Hello, I maintain the Archlinux package. The fontconfig linking error is because of a deliberate change in binutils 2.22. It's the first item in the changelog[1], more info at the Fedora wiki[2]. So for the TigerVNC package in Arch, I simply did what the Fedora wiki instructs - I added fontconfig to the linking flags.
