Hi All,
I've been wrestling for a few days with a key-mapping issue. I'm using
RubyMines with the textmate bindings, which leads to a lot of chorded key
combos of <meta>-<letter>. I'm running opendesk/lxde over TigerVNC 1.2
(and was seeing this in 1.1 too) - it seemed like no matter what I told
xmodmap to do, my alt key would generate the Alt keysym no matter what.
It's almost like the TigerVNC server is noticing alt does not generate
alt, so it makes up a new keymap to handle it, and overrides everything
else? The same thing happened when I tried to map Super_L/R to Meta_L as
well.
Any TigerVNC users have success making the alt key generate meta? After a
bunch of google searches and experiments I'm completely at a loss. I'm not
sure if TigerVNC is doing something I wouldn't ordinarily expect an X
server to do, or if I'm missing something really simple/obvious. Any tips
appreciated....
One specific thing I noticed is that perssing the alt key generated an
xevent where keycode 255 (keysym Alt_L). If I then changed keycode 255 to
generate Meta_L, then pressing the alt key would generate an xevent with
keycode 254 (keysum Alt_L). keycode 255 would in fact be Meta_L, but now
the alt key is generating a different keycode and sure enough "xmodmap -pk"
shows a keybinding that didn't previously exist.
Things I've tried:
Clearing Mod1 and setting it to Meta_L
Aliasing the Alt_L keysym to Meta_L
Redefining keycodes as revealed by "xmodmap -pk" and spying with xev.
Any tips/advice/suggestions or even a "working as intended" would be
appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Rob
