I cannot reproduce this issue on my Debian 12 setup here.
osm2pgsql-replication does keep a connection to postgresql open while osm2pgsql
is running and reuses it when it is finished. Still doesn't seem to cause any
issues here, even on a long running osm2pgsql. Do you have a special postgresql
setup, for example with a proxy?
