I've just taken a close look at a re-rendered tile[1]. All of the school areas have an extra icon on them. I have carefully added a node for the position of the school building on the site where I can. This generates the icon in the right place. Now there is an extra icon added by the OSMARender. I think this is not the right approach.
In the past there was a lot of discussion about automatically adding a car park icon. The car park icon can be placed arbitrarily and it will make sense, but a school icon is different. There is potentially an area with a school building on it. The school building is rarely in the centre of the area, so placing an icon in the correct place adds value, automatically adding the icon in the wrong place reduces value. I cannot draw the outline of the actual building because the Yahoo resolution is much too low. My icon positioning is approximate, but much better than an automatic one. Please can we go back to only drawing an icon where there is a specific node.
