And wow, does it work! On the previous version I was managing about 2 or 3 tiles (or about 16 missing tile requests) before the upload used to fail continuously, and I had to restart the client. This version currently is on the 49th request this morning and also once recovered from not being able to tell if the queue was full or not (about the time the queue went from full to empty) which it never had before. I might also just be getting lucky with tiles that aren't too complex, but it seems quicker as well. It looks like resolving the rmtree problem might just have solved my other problems which perhaps were down to resources getting eaten up by all those still open files.
