So, what am I supposed to do in this case? ctrl-c inkscape, delete the malformed preferences.xml and continue? Or has anybody else seen this problem too?
Some Tilesets need tons of RAM to complete (and a 64bit machine to address it). There is not much harm in terminating inkscape in such a case, especially if the request has already timed out at the server, and probably given to another unfortunate renderer.
Good resource prediction AKA complexity determination for tilesets is on our TODO list.
