Is it an idea to do a graceful restart every 24h? "apachectl -k graceful". You'll have to update the oceanfiles.dat file in a cron job anyway, this is just a small addition. I don't quite remember how long it was that I changed that part, but it could well have been last weekend. 5 days is a lot different than 1 day.
